Is A Home Based Web Business A Good Idea?

If you are looking at starting a web based home business, it is important to do careful research before taking the plunge.
To get a successful home based web business going, you will need a web site of your own, and to have a good idea on how best to market it. Knowing how to build a website is an important skill to develop, as it can save you a lot of money you would otherwise spend on having someone else customize your site.
Join some internet marketing forums, and learn from people who have already experienced success in a web business. Be careful, however, not to take advice from people who are no more experienced than you, but still offer their opinion as fact.
Don’t buy everything you come across online. Keep your credit card firmly under control until you fully understand what you are looking at.
Ultimately, you will only know if a home based web business is right for you by getting started in one. Once you have done your research, make the decision to give it your full effort, work hard, and take the advice of mentors who can help you.

Oh yes, sure wish I had found the PPG sooner. Could have saved a ton of money with what I know now. So much you can do with just a little knowledge of HTML.
Nice post Alan, keep them coming.

Hi Alan,
You make a good point about people on forums who speak with authority but who in actual fact are talking as their a*se guides them…
For example, one know-all was telling everybody how “article marketing is dead” on a forum I frequented a while back… Utter nonsense, but advocated with all the confidence of a revivalist preacher.
Hi Alan,
A web-based business is definitely the way to go. No “product” to keep, no building to rent. It’s absolutely the best. Great post!
“…Ultimately, you will only know if a home based web business is right for you by getting started in one.”
I agree with this statement as different people get different results and starting a home business is no different. That’s why I’ve always recommended people to do it part time first before giving up their job.

David,
We will all come across the know-it-all at some stage online, just make sure you recognize them for what they are.
Alan
Darrell,
A big plus for me with a web based business is the idea of having no rent to pay on an office or warehouse.
I have run conventional businesses, and this has been a major headache.
Alan
Peter,
You are right, the beauty of having a web based business is that you don’t have to reduce your current income while you grow your second one.
