I have not used a paid service yet (budget constraints) to submit articles. I know the advantage is to avoid the tedious manual method and they are able to submit to hundreds, where manual might get 25-30. I know paid services also offer a lot of neat tools to help in creating your article. Maybe some day soon I can splurge and use one of these services.

I agree article submission is very important for backlinks building and getting traffic. But I found it too time consuming so I am currently doing more blogging and blog commenting for now. I’m still growing quite a decent amount of backlinks this way too, in fact more than when I was doing article submission.

Peter, You raise a good point about time restrictions. Personally I like to have my backlinks coming from a number of different areas, as I don’t know how Search Engines will treat different types of links in the future.
But we all will have our favourite method of building backlinks, so go with what you like best.
