I came across a very interesting blog recently . It is run by my good friend Peter Lee, who has a background in banking, and also is passionate about his Home Internet Business.

Yesterday I wrote on another of my blogs of how people read, see and hear stories in the media of economic uncertainty and threats to global economic growth. I begs the question, is there a recession-proof business?

Obviously this uncertainty has a certain amount of truth, with rising oil prices and problems in the credit markets. Ecomomies in various countries may well be going into recession, if you take the economists standard definition of two consequetive three month periods with no growth.

However, the general economy does not have to reflect your own economic situation. If you start now to develop a simple work from home opportunity and develop a second stream of income, you can make yourself immune from any financial obstacles that may fall in your path.

 Is it easy to make a large amount of money working from home for yourself?  No, it’s not.

However it is easy to start a business, and begin to earn extra income. To generate a large income will take time , careful planning , and consistant effort. The great thing is that there are genuine people you can get good advice from, and resources you can utilise to learn as you start your journey to financial freedom.

You will never know what help there is until you look and ask for it. As a very famous man said many years ago: “Ask and Ye Shall Recieve; Seek, and Ye Shall Find; Knock, and It Shall Be Opened Unto You”.

Today I wanted to talk about home based business ideas,  not by mentioning any specific idea, but covering some areas where you can find ideas that will suit you personally. You have all the tools you need to discover something suitable for you, and to meet others who have already achieved success - just use the Internet!

Use the internet to develop a friendship with other people. If you build a genuine level of trust, these relationships can be a great benefit in various ways in an online home business.

Try these methods to meet others and develop ideas for your home based business.

1.  Join discussion forums.  You can do this for free, then by becoming part of discussion groups you will find other members with interests similar to yours.

If your are in an internet marketing or home based business forum you can begin to gain knowledge on how to run your own home based business. You can take a look of the many home business possibilities available. The format  gives you the chance to ask questions and get help from people more experienced than you.

Many of these relationships you build up can assist you for years to come, so don’t neglect this resource, even when your business is up and running.

2.  Use Social Networking sites.  This is an area that has grown at a dramatic pace over the last few years.  My Space, Facebook and Bebo are examples of social networking sites.  Others such as Twitter can be excellent places to develop both business and personal relationships.

Don’t neglect the power of your blog to social network. Bookmark posts to various social directories like Digg, Propeller and Stumbleupon, and others of the hundred of directories people read each day. This can lead to the development of useful business contacts, and also generate more traffic to your site.

Some home business development ideas to get you thinking. If you are intimidated by the unfamiliarity of it all, don’t worry.  Just make a start, and learn as you go along.  That’s what we all did!

I was on holiday in Luz in Portugal with my family 3 weeks ago. When we flew out we were inevitably delayed at the airport for 4 hours, and my nerves were frayed! I was blaming everyone for the delay, including my wife Pauline.

Of course, being the wise young women she is, she suggested I go away and see if I could find a bookstore to keep me amused.  And being the obedient husband I am, off I went.

Amazingly, the first thing that caught my eye was a book title “Get to the top on Google“. Now maybe I’m mistaken, but I don’t think I had ever seen this before, even in large bookstores. And this was the smallest store you could imagine.

 Anyway, I naturally bought it , and for the rest of the day time flew, I was engrossed. The book is authored by David Viney, who calls himself “The SEO Expert“. He is based in the UK, so some of his work is geared more towards the UK market. But the overall principles he talks about are universal.

Now, as I own my own simple work from home opportunity business, I had a major interest in learning how I could generate more traffic to my site. And learn I did.

Here are three simple work from home opportunity tips to help you come up with ideas that can help you turn something you love into a good income source for you and your family.

First, it is possible to turn a passion into a profitable business. One way to do that is to utilize the Internet and sell information products. You can create a blog and put information products on it that you personally write yourself. 

If you have a passion for your subject, you will find that the words just flow out from you. If you like a hobby, write about that. If it’s fishing, tell the world all you know.

Secondly, there may be things that you can do that do not involve the Internet that could present an opportunity for you as well. For example, if you love to play the piano you could start your own piano lessons business.  

Other possible work from home opportunities could include cutting hair, tutoring students and helping them with their homework, or even running errands for shut-ins and people who are too busy to do it on their own. Every one of these could be things that you can earn money doing right from the comfort of your own home.

Thirdly, if you don’t want to run a business involving your hobby or passion, consider what area of work you currently have an expertise in, and see if you can translate this knowledge and skill into a workable business proposition.

For example, if you previously worked in the heating and air conditioning business, could you possibly do part-time sales for a company and earn commissions doing that.

These are three very simple work from home ideas. You could probably think of many more yourself. It would be a good idea to sit down with a note pad and pen, and write down all the ideas that come into your head.

 You will be sure to come up with the best idea for you if you take the time to look at all your options. If you feel comfortable with your choice , there is a far greater chance of it being successful in the long term.

Here are some of my thoughts on the costs of working from home……

 Many people are looking to work from home in today’s atmosphere of economic uncertainty and rising transport costs, as it can offer flexability and improved quality of life.

Can you work from home with no investment? You certainly can, if you simply want to end up with another job. Many menial tasks can be done from home, often at poor wage levels.

 To earn a larger amount of money working at home, it will probably be necessary to make some monetary investment. If you work as a freelance writer or provide office or secretarial services, the minimum requirements would be a home computer and internet connection. This will be well worth the money you spend, as you will be able to greatly increase your productivity, and set your own income levels.

Of course, the ultimate home business is one in which you set up your business in such a way that over time you can develop ongoing or residual income. At this stage, your income is no longer dependant on your working set hours each week. You will still need to keep your business running, but now you can devote more time to the things that really matter to you.

So is it possible to work from home with no investment? The honest answer is: if you want to make a small amount of money - yes.  However, to develop a large, ongoing income, you will have to make a small investment, both in terms of money, and also your time. 

Look at it as an investment, rather than a cost. If planned carefully, your small investment can build over time to set you up financially for life. Wouldn’t that be worth it, no matter what the cost?

I know my answer to that last question!!

 If you are looking at the idea of starting your own home based business, you will be faced with an enormous amount of possibilities. One commonly asked question is : What are the most successful home based businesses?

Sounds like a pretty basic question, but it has no simple answer. Really, what you should be looking for when assessing your options is does the business fit your requirements under various headings.

1. Make a list of all the things you have an interest in, are good at, or like to do. Your ideal business should have at least some connection to something you feel passionate about, as you will be more likely to devote time and effort to developing your business when you have passion for the subject.

2.  Start to identify what types of products or services you could offer based on your particular skills and interests. 

3.  What groups of people would buy products and services that you have identified? Is their market demand, and are you in a position to supply that market?

4. Do you have previous business experience, and do you have the skills required to run things on your own? For many people, starting their own home based business with little or no experience, guidance and support will be essential.

 5. How will you deliver the products or services you have identified? Maybe there is a direct selling company that already manufactures these products and has a marketing plan in place. 

6. Develop a business plan that outlines your long and short term goals, financial planning, and ways to monitor your progress.

The most successful home based businesses tend to be those that operate in an established market, have an identified demand, and above all take advantage of the knowledge and experience of people who have been successful in this area already.

Be realistic in your expectations. The majority of people will quit a home based business before it ever really has a chance to get going. It does take time and lots of effort before you will start to see substantial results…but then you will see really substantial results.

There are many great books on starting a home business. Check your local library. If you are interested in buying into a business opportunity, home business books can still help, but you’ll also want to do some reading about evaluating and choosing the best business for you.

Take advantage of the internet and do solid research before you decide which path is the best for you.

Normally, the vast majority of visitors to your blog will leave without making a comment.

So here I’m going to suggest some ways in which you can increase the level of comments that people leave. Extra comments will give your blog more authority, both to the viewer and to the search engines.

Increasing The Number Of Comments on Your Blogs:

1.  Ask Questions : Try to include specific questions within the post. This gets people thinking, and they will often want to answer it for you. Including questions in your headings can be a particularly good way to get more comments, as well as getting the readers attention initially. This seems to work by getting the question in their mind early on.

2.  Interact with any comments given : If you’re not willing to use your own comments section why would your readers? When someone leaves a comment for you, make the effort to interact with them.  As your blog grows this will get more difficult, but  in the early days of your blog it is especially important as it shows readers that you value their comments.  This can develop a climate of interaction,  and other readers will get the impression that your comments section is an active place that you as the host values highly.  Later on, as the activity in your comments section grows you should find that you need to be slightly less active, as your readers will start to take over from you, answering questions and creating a sense of community. But don’t completely ignore your comment threads!

3.  Be humble : You will find that readers respond very well to posts that show your own failings and weaknesses, and the gaps in your own knowledge, rather than the type of post in which you come across as already knowing everything about a topic. People are much more attracted to humility, and they are more likely to respond to it than if you had posted with a tone of someone who might harshly respond to their comments.

4.  Invite Comments - Have you noticed that when you specifically ask for comments, that people will leave them in much larger numbers than when you don’t? I know I have found this to be the case.   This might sound surprising,  as most of your readers probably know that they can leave comments on any post.  Perhaps inviting a comment just triggers a response within the readers brain. You should also remember that new readers or those that are unfamiliar with blogging won’t always know about comments. They may not know what the word means or how to use them. So a well laid out and easy to use comments system is important in helping them participate.

5.  Be gracious : This is related to humility. There may be times where you as the blogger will get things wrong in your posts. Maybe it will be  grammar or spelling, maybe it could be the crux of your argument or some other aspect of your blogging. When someone leaves a comment that shows up your faults, it can be very easy to respond agressively, or in a defensive manner. We’ve all seen the raging arguements that can follow. It can be difficult, but a graceful approach to comments, where you admit that you made a mistake and that others have made a valid point, can encourage people who are a little timid, and make them feel a little safer in leaving comments.

To kick off my new blog I’m just going to talk about what is a great and simple work from home opportunity, the Plug in Profit Site, or PIPS for short.

 The system was developed by Stone Evans some years ago. Those of you who are famliar with the online business world will know that Stone is recognised as one of the foremost internet marketers around. He has helped thousands of people to develop their own business, from large to small.

I came across the PIPS program in December 2007 through a friend in the U.S. I had just started to develop an online based business with Success University, e-lottery, and uVme which I had been introduced to by Kevin Kavanagh and Roger Galloway, two individuals with whom I have had business dealings with over the years, and people who I trusted and respected completely.

I initially saw PIPS purely as a way to promote my Success University business, but as I looked into it in more detail, I saw that it had tremendous potential in its own right, and could operate in parallel with my existing businesses.

With the PIPS program you are provided with your own standard PIPS website, and you register a new domain name for your site. This site is hosted with host4profit. You can sign up for various affiliate marketing programs and promote them through your PIPS website. You recieve a detailed “30 days to success” training program when you sign up.

 Do not be confused and think that if you start a PIPS business you will be rich within a 30 day period. What this means is that the training and information is broken down into 30 seperate sections. You can go through these sections at your leisure, and absorb the information carefully. As someone with limited knowledge of how an online business operated, I found this training to be very beneficial. The training section is constantly being updated to keep up with changes in the marketplace, and has changed considerably even in the last 4 months.

Before you spend any money on marketing, read through those 30 training sections several times. A key to having a successful business is to utilize a free resource that comes with your training, the Warrior Forum. In the PIPS section of the forum you will find people at all levels of success with a PIPS business, and you can ask them any questions and learn from their experience. This is a priceless resource, and Patricia Brucoli the member support director provides a great service.

To become successful with a PIPS business will take time and effort. You can change your site and customise it, making it more friendly to search engines, and create your own unique style as you go along. Many of today’s most successful internet marketers learned the basics through PIPS, before taking their new knowledge and applying it with other ventures.

PIPS is not a get rich quick scheme. To be successful you will need to put in time and effort. You will also have to learn new skills and techniques as you go along. The great thing is that it is possible for anyone with determination to become successful by using the tools that PIPS provides for you.

As a way of getting started in an internet business without needing extensive knowledge, the PIPS idea would be hard to beat. I also joined the PIPS Power Group to gain extra help and guidance, and I would strongly recommend this to anyone starting out.
