Avoid A Recession With Your Own Home Based Business

Have you been watching the business news on TV lately? I've caught some snippets over the last few days, in between working on my home based business, and it hasn't been a pleasant experience.

A lot of commentators have been using the "R" word, for recession. It seems that there is a lot of uncertainty in the markets with the price of oil continuing to hit recoerd highs.

Does that mean that you should be worrried? Well, if you are employed in an area being hit at present, like the banking sector, then yes. Many people will loose their jobs over the next few months.

So what can you do? Well, perhaps the best thing you can do is start your own home based business.

Firstly, it can give you another income source, so if things slow down on the job front, you will still be able to meet your expenses and maintain your lifestyle.

Secondly, if you build it correctly, you can over time replace and then exceed your current income, giving you the option to leave your current job and free up more time to be with the people you love, and do the things you like to do.

That's why I have been building my own home based business, and you can do the same too. It doesn't take great skills, just a willingness to learn new ideas and put them into practice on a consistant basis.

Make a decision that you are not going to take part in any recession, and take control of your own financial destiny. You can be sure that when a recession ends, many people will have made their fortune, while others have sat around complaining about how tough things are.

The Four-Way Test

Well, I've had a very interesting day so far. Some years ago I briefly become involved with a networking marketing business. During the short time I was with that company, one of my upline gave me a book on success principles.

I found the book to be very interesting, and I continued to apply the ideas contained in the book long after I had stopped my involvement with that company.

One thing that stood out in my mind was The Four-Way Test which were the guiding principles that the Rotary Organization asked its members to apply in their lives.

The Four-Way Test

The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions:

Of the things we think, say or do

1 Is it the TRUTH?
2 Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3 Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4 Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Now those four questions seemed to me to be a good basis to build your life around.

Anyway, time passed, and some years later a friend asked me if I would like to join our local Rotary Club. I remembered that book and its description of The Four-Way Test, and so I did join the club.

Time still passed, until today I had the honour of becoming the President of the club. All because someone who had no connection with Rotary took the time out to try and help me on my journey to success.

So I still try to apply that test in my business and personal relationships today. Not that I am perfect, but at least I have a good aspiration to aim at.

That is why I would like to thank all those at the Warrior Forum and the PIPS Power Group Forum for their advice and guidance in building my online business. It is like having a Mastermind Group as described in Napoleon Hill's classic book, Think And Grow Rich.

Some Methods To Increase Links To Your Sites

As a website owner, your constant aim should be to increase traffic to your site, as this will in the long term lead to financial success. One of the best ways to increase traffic is to increase the number of links between your site and other highly rated sites.

Google and other major search engines consider the number of incoming links to your website as an important factor in determining ranking. As you increase the number of links this should help you rank higher in the search engines. Google has introduced a ten point scale called PageRank (ten is the highest rank) to indicate the quantity and quality of incoming links.

Links are not treated equally, as links from popular information hubs will help your site rank higher than those from low traffic sites. Here are some methods of getting more good quality links.

1. Submit Your Site to Key Directories.

A link from a directory will help your ranking, as well as potentially getting you traffic. You can submit your site manually, or use an automated service. In either case, be careful not to submit to hundrdeds of directories in the one day, as this would be considered spamming by Google and your site could be penalised.

2. Try Submitting Your site to Industry Sites and Specialized Directories.

You may find some directories focused on particular industries, such as finance or education. Perhaps you belong to different trade associations that feature member sites. If so, ask them for a link. Even if you have to pay something for a link, it may help boost your PageRank.

3. Ask For Reciprocal Links.

Find complementary websites and request a reciprocal link to your site (especially to your free service, if you offer one). Develop an out-of-the way page where you put links to other sites -- so you don't send people out the back door as fast as you bring them in the front door. Your best results will be from sites that get a similar amount of traffic to your site. High-traffic site webmasters are too busy to answer your requests for a link and don't have anything to gain. Look for smaller sites that may have linking pages.

4. Start Writing Some Articles for Others to Use on their Sites.

You can hugely increase your visibility when you write articles in your area of expertise, and distribute them to editors as free content for their e-mail newsletters or their websites. Always insist that a link to your website and a one-line description of what you offer be included with the article. This "viral" approach can produce hundreds of links to your site over time.

5. Start a Business Blog.

This is an excellent way to add fresh content to your site, provided you have the blog hosted on your own domain. By giving first class content, you will please the search engines, but also people are more likely to link to the blog, increasing Page Rank further.

Obviously there are many more ways to increase links, but I hope you find this post useful in getting you thinking of options.

Get Top Search Engine Rankings Indirectly

High Search Engine ranking is one of the best way to get targeted traffic to your sites. Search engine optimization, or SEO for short, has developed into a big business in itself. By optimizing your site with suitable key wprds, you can get your sites listed in the first two pages of search results, which get the vast bulk of search traffic.

However, this process can take time, and needs careful planning. So how can you get more immediate exposure to the top listings?

Obviously, you could get a payed listing, but this can be expensive unless you have a lot of experience. So what free methods are available?

1. You could submit content to the site. By writing articles for their web site and including your resource box and site link at the end of the article, you have the potential to create a presence on their site. If they publish your article, you'll be indirectly at the top of the search rankings.

2. See if the owner of the site you are targeting would like to swap advertising. If your site doesn't get as much traffic as they do, you could always throw in some extra benefits.

3. Try writing an positive review article of their site, products or services. Then publish the review on your web site, and let the web master know about this. Suggest that they may wish to link to your web site so their own visitors can read it.

4. Give a testimonial to the web site for one of their products or services. Include a small text link for your own web site along with the testimonial. If they accept it, you have a presence on their site. It could even end up on their sales copy, and be promoting your site every time they advertise.

5. Produce an ebook, and ask the web site owner if they would like to give it away free to their visitors. You could have them link to your own site or include your ad and site links in the free ebook.

There are many more ways to piggy back on other sites high rankings while you increase your own. Use the search engines to find other tips and techniques to build your own simple work from home opportunity. Remember, always keep promoting what you do.

Success University Team Seminar

Hi all, I attended the Team Seminar in Coventry, England yesterday with my wife Pauline. What an amazing day!

First of all the sun was out. We flew in early as we didn't want to miss anything.

The first speaker Manny Kaye was very interesting, he talked about how he built his large business, focusing on Success University which offers online personal development and training courses. He has grown his business dramatically over the last 14 months, and gave great tips and encouragement to people just starting out.

The main message I got from him was that there are a huge number of people looking to better their lives, and the tools in Success University can help anyone to do this, at a cost of £25 per month. People spend more than that on a take out on Saturday night!

He was followed by Craig Goldblatt, who was a great professional speaker. He has trained tens of thousands of people for many major corporations. I met him afterwards and he was very approachable.

One of his quotes which I liked was:
"Joining Success University and not doing the courses is a bit like joining a gym and not using the facilities".

He gave away some of his training material free to some audience members who participated in his discussions. I thought this might be a gimmic until a friend of mine was called up!

The seminar continued with presentations on e-lottery and uVme which are the two other businesses which the Team provides support for. Again, this was very informative and motivational. The potential for all three businesses is huge, and talking to some of the leaders in the industry afterwards was very inspirational.

I would pay particular thanks to Roger Galloway, Jerry Scriven and Dave Butler for their hosting of the Seminar, and Mark and Claire Doyle who organised the event.

The Team's next Seminar is in September, tickets are an incredibly low £15 for a four and a half hour function. Having been on training courses costing £500 for the same period of time, I can really appreciate the value this offers. Maybe I should get a commision for promoting the event! (only joking guys).

Marketing For A Simple Work From Home Opportunity

Once you have chosen the simple work from home opportunity that you feel will work best for you, your next task is to draw up a marketing plan. This will be needed to bring your business to the attention of the general public, and more importantly to the attention of your target market.

No matter what business model you choose, you will need to find cost-effective ways to advertise and market your services. Chances are if you are just starting out, you won't have the funds to invest in expensive advertising. You have to take matters into your own hands and realize that there are ways to publicize your business without spending a fortune. Simple Work from Home Opportunities

As I write this I am sitting in the sunshine on vacation with Pauline and our family in Portugal. I sat down to write a piece on simple work from home opportunities, but got carried away by the sound of shouts from the pool. We have had a fantastic nine days so far and have a few more left! It is great to get away with family and just chill out.

Of course, our businesses are progressing nicely while we are away, which is always nice. One of the great advantages of having an online work from home business is that it gives me the opportunity to spend more time on vacation. Previously, when I worked for myself, any time I took a break, my income stopped instantly. As a result, I never took more than one week off at a time.

Leisure Audio Books is working for me as I write!

I recently became a member of Leisure Audio Books, and I want to share my humble opinion with you today.

This is like nothing I have ever experienced before, I was shocked to find that is totally unique, never seen before, and I believe it to be revolutionary, and I'll explain why.
